Who needs the Quicken for Windows 3.0 Release 7 update?
This update will only affect Quicken for Windows Version 3.0.
If you are running an earlier version of Quicken for Windows,
this update will have no effect on your software.
The update including Release 7 is larger than the Release 6
update. Release 7 includes minor modifications to the program
as well as the all new on screen check order feature. If you wish
to create a program icon for the on screen check order feature,
see below for instructions**.
To determine if you need to download Release 7, check the
Version and Release of Quicken that you are currently using.
To Check your Release:
1) Start Quicken for Windows
2) With Quicken open, hold down the Shift key while
choosing About Quicken from the Help Menu.
3) A dialog box will display with information about
Quicken. The first line will say:
Quicken 3 for Windows, Rx
where the "x" is located, a number will appear i.e. 3, 4,
5, 6,or 7. This is the "Release Number" of your version of
Quicken.
If you are using Quicken 3.0 and have Release 6 or lower,
follow these instructions to run the Update*. If you
already have Release 7, running the Update will not
change your software in any way. If you are using
Quicken for Windows 1.0, 1.01 or 2.0, we encourage you to
look in the General Information Library to find out about the
added benefits of using Quicken 3 for Windows.
Running the Update
Create a directory on your hard drive called UPDATE.
Next, download the Quicken Update into this directory
The file name is : QW3R7.ZIP
Exit from Windows into DOS. Do not attempt to use the
update from a DOS prompt while in Windows. The update
may not perform correctly, and other problems may develop.
Change to the UPDATE directory and unzip QW3R7.ZIP. The
ZIP file was created with Version 2.04g of PKZIP and you
must have this version of PKUNZIP in order to unzip the
Quicken Update. If you do not have PKUNZIP, it is available
for download from:
Forum - IBMNEW
Library - Library Tools
File - PK204G.EXE
The DOS commands for unzipping the Quicken Update are:
1) CD \UPDATE
2) PKUNZIP QW3R7.ZIP (press enter)
To run the update, change to the UPDATE directory, and type
QW3R7 followed by the path of your Quicken 3 for Windows directory.
Press Enter.
Example: C:>\UPDATE\QW3R7 C:\QUICKENW
Checking the Update
Once the update is complete, you will now have Release 7
of Quicken 3 for Windows. This can be verified by using the steps
located above: "How to check your release..."
Removing the Update Files
Once you have confirmed that the update was successful by checking
the release, you can safely remove the files that were used in the
update process. All of these files will be located in the UPDATE
directory where you completed the download and the unzip processes.
The list of files that will be deleted is:
QW3R7.ZIP
QW3R7.BAT
QW3R7.RTP
PATCH.EXE
README.QW3
The number of files that will be changed by the update varies depending
upon which release you currently have. (If you have Release 3, more files
will be affected than if you have Release 4 ,5 or 6). As long as "About
Quicken" displays Release 7, the patch has updated Quicken correctly.
*If you had difficulties printing checks using release 3, 4 , 5 or 6 and you
entered numbers in either the horizontal or vertical adjustment areas, you
will need to reset these areas after updating to release 7. Simply place zero
in each of these alignment areas to reset them. Otherwise, you may
encounter check printing alignment problems again.
**To create a program icon for Check Order use the following steps:
1. From Windows Program Manager click on file, and click on new.
2. Choose new Program Item and click OK.
3. In the Program Item Properties box, click in the Command Line box.
4. Type the path of your Quicken 3 for Windows directory with QORDER.EXE appended
Example: C:\QUICKENW\QORDER.EXE
and click on Change Icon.
5. Click on which icon you prefer and click OK.
6. The icon will display on the Program Item Properties box. Click OK if
correct.
